I really appreciate all the input on this site. It's helped me allot to narrow down my choices on what tractor to buy. I have it now narrowed down to the JD4300 and Kub L3010. I am a John Deere man traditionally however after trying out both tractors I am leaning towards the Kubota. The reason is the JD just doesn't seem to have the quality of the Kub. The GST is so smooth and easy to operate compared to the JD. The JD has allot of plastic parts and is an assemby of components gathered from all over the world. The JD according to the posts has had allot of problems with the way it was designed and engineered. I haven't seen anything bad about the L3010. I am wondering about resale value though (I'm assuming JD will fix all the problems). Is the resale any better on a JD vs Kub? Are there any factors that the JD has over the Kub other than you don't have to bleed the fuel lines if you run out of diesel? Thanks for your help.

I am in a similar situation looking at either a Deere 4600 or a Kubota L4310. I am not sure which will have better resale value in the future but the dealer said they can't keep a used Kubota on the lot and I also know I am saving about $3000 to start with the Kubota and it doesn't have the quality problems (and I have a John Deere 4100 so I am not a Kubota person to start). ....

That's good to hear that they can't keep a used Kubota on the lot. It used to be the same with JD but may not be if the new 4000 series doesn't match the quality like JD used to. I see I said GST tranny in my post,I ment HST. Thanks for your input. ....

I bought a JD 4300,4wd,hydro last summer and I've been very happy with it. At first I got the collar shift trans and didn't like it, so I traded it back in for the hydro. I don't use it a lot, I only have 50 hours on it, but it's done some heavy work for me, with no problems. ....

I bought a JD 4300 last Oct. with 430 loader w/73" h.d bucket, Sync-reverse trans. R-4 tires, Hiniker 6'box scraper and recently a Rhino 5' rotary cutter and a 60" King Kutter rototiller. I am very happy with this tractor and the way it handles the implements. Also credit to my dealer, Hollingsworth's of Ontario,Or. Jim in Middleton ....

I bought a 3010 HST, front loader, and Bush Hog 72" 11 months ago and now have 125 hours on it. I did a lot of research before making this decision and felt better about the orange (yes, I know the brake pedals are on the wrong side.....but I ahve never needed the turning brakes)and since the time of purchase I have only felt better and better about my decision. There are alot of orange owners on these sites and yet you see mostly griping from green owners, I think that says an awful lot about the quality of the new 4xxx's.
Both my dealer and Kubota followed up to make sure that I was happy with my purchse and I am sure that if I had any problems they would have corrected them immediatly rather than denying that a problem existed....when I spend this kind of money for somthing I don't want people lying to me just to avoid correcting their mistake.....but that is just me. I don't mean to negative about green but if I were to go thru the tractor purchase process again these are things I would take into consideration. Hop it helps. Doug in PA ....

Thanks for your input everyone. The dealer brought me out a JD4200 HST with 72" belly mower and tiller to try. I have put four hours on it. It's an OK tractor however is low on power. It can barely climb my ditches without powering out. Also it can't hold PTO rpm with the 72" mower unless I'm on very light grass or I go extremely slow. If I was going JD I would have to go with the 4300. I again looked at a 3010 today and I think I like it better. I was wondering Doug if your 3010 has enough power to climb ditches (average height highway size) without powering out to bad. The 3010 has more power than the 4200 but also weighs quite a bit more so maybe it will have trouble as well power wise. The 3010 is a bit bigger than a 4300 as well (at least the rear tires are). How do you find it maneuverablity wise? The reason I am asking is I plan on pulling a 72" rear mower. I appreciate your comments. ....

Ah, you have obviously run into the old "big enough" problem. I have a JD 4100 which is great for light work and easy to transport and easy on the turf and very maneuverable. However, when using a 5' tiller, it can do it but lacks the power to do it easily. I thought about going to one of the somewhat larger 4000 series but none would be big enough to handle a tree planter that I needed to use. So instead I am getting a Kubota L4310 in addition to the 4100. Of course it is too big to cut lawn easily and harder to transport but I obviously have the best of both worlds, if you can afford it. No matter what size you get, there are compromises. Bigger is not always better. I wanted to upgrade my Bobcat to handle larger implements but then I realized the weight was so great I would have to get a bigger trailer, bigger truck, commercial driver's license, etc. ....

I am not certain if I have gone up grades as steep as what you are describing. My property has hills but more gradual. I just bought a 6' 20-disc disc harrow this past weekend and used this to till up 2 acres of pasture and the 3010 pulled this with no effort at all...even up a slight hill. In addition I have a 6' bush hog that I can use cutting almost anything although thick tall grass will slow you down some but it will go through brush and saplings like they weren't even there. In high gear going up hill is tough, but I hardly ever use high gear. In low gear I would think you could climb any hill you wanted but I do recall the manual saying somthing about going up and down steep hills with your front end pointing down so as not to tip over backwards...this maybe somthing you want to look into, but I think that is universal with any tractor.

I want to thank everyone on this board for all there help. My new L3010 HST was delivered Thursday night. I am still waiting for the loader which is supposed to come next week. I also purchased a Farm King 72 inch rear discharge 3PT mower. I have used the tractor two days now and have 8.3 hours on it and haven't used half a tank of diesel yet. It took me a while to get used to the mower but now I love it. I wouldn't like it so much if I didn't have the HST. That HST is incredible. It's so smooth! I thought I would have to keep my JD STX46 mower to get in the tight places but now I won't be needing it anymore.
I was a bit concerned that the tractor would be a bit short on power but that is not the case. It just plays with that mower even climbing up the side of my ditches. I hooked it up to my 300 gallon water trailer and you would never now it was towing anything. The ride is really good and the seat is very comfortable.
I am really happy with my choice. Thanks again!! ....
